Thats the way I found it and thats what spurred me to learn open source so that once I developed a more complicit understanding of the genere basics I could come back and re engage.
It comes down to which tool is best for the situation I guess - recently I read a level headed comparison of both which listed about a dozen things you could do in each and not the other.
Do you mean Inkscape and Illustrator. I'm only aware of one thing that Inkscape can do that Illustrator can't and that's blurring a vector object. Actually I'm not even sure if Inkscape blurs the vector object directly or just adds a raster effect like Illustrator.
